Are you still relying on the phonebook to get new customers? It may get you some customers but not nearly as many as a good website can.

Every single day people in your local area are looking for you. They need a business just like yours and are searching for it online. The question is - are they finding you? Here's a simple test to find out.

1. Open your internet browser and go to Google.com to do a basic Google search. Clicking on Google below will open up a new browser window and take you there without closing this page.

2. In the search box type in exactly what you think people looking for you would search for. In other words, if you're a plumber in Monument, Colorado, someone searching for you might type in something like "plumber in Monument, CO" or "plumbing repairs Monument".

3. After entering in your keyword or phrase, click on "Google Search" to get the results. 

4. Look for a listing that links to your website. If you have a direct link to your website on the front page, congratulations! People can find you when they look. If you are not on the front page of Google (or at least on the second page) you are loosing customers to any of your competitors who are listed on that page. But chances are high that most of your competitors aren't there either.

If you know how, it's not hard to get 3-5 or even more of the listings on the first page of the Google search results to be a direct link to your website. Imagine how many new customers you could be getting if everyone who searched for what you do found you in half of the front page listings.
